May KA Newsletter Now On-line

The May edition of the King’s Academy Newsletter is now available. See articles about the results of the Hello Dolly Dinner Theater and an exciting field trip to the Oregon Zoo. This issue also highlights the senior projects of our three graduating seniors: Nick Fukuda, Katy Hoogendam, and Anna Tooze. Hard copies of the newsletter are available at school.

Memorial Day and Finals Week

King’s Academy will be taking Monday, May 31 off for Memorial Day. Finals will be held Tuesday, June 1 through Thursday, June 3. See the attached Finals Schedule for specific final times and early dismissal information.

King’s Academy Graduation

The 2010 King’s Academy commencement will be held Thursday, May 27, at 7:00pm in the RCC sanctuary. Our three graduating seniors are Nicholas Fukuda, Katy Hoogendam, and Anna Tooze. Brad Hangartner, an accountant by day and a choral director by night, will be giving the commencement address. A reception will follow downstairs in the fellowship hall.

Senior Thesis/Project Presentations

You are invited to attend the King’s Academy Senior Thesis Defense Tuesday evening, May 25, 7:00 PM at RCC.  King’s Academy students are required to complete a persuasive thesis or a hands-on project during their senior year in order to graduate.  This is intended to be a “capstone” to their education, and to utilize and demonstrate their God-given talents as well as the skills they have acquired during their time at Kings Academy.  They have each spent between 50 and 80 hours on this project, and are preparing a demonstration of their work for Tuesday night.  Our three seniors this year have each chosen a hands-on project:

- Nick Fukuda will be presenting the plans for his design of a “pool house” building and surrounding landscaping for eventual construction on the Fukudas property.

- Anna Tooze will be presenting “Nightingale,” a childrens book which she wrote and illustrated in watercolor.

- Katy Hoogendam will be presenting a cookbook she made of over 30 recipes for people with egg and sugar allergies.

Hello Dolly a Success!

The King’s Academy Dinner Theater proved to be a smashing success. Hello Dolly was well received by enthusiastic crowds at three showings. Benjamin Evans, playing head waiter Rudolph Reisenweber, entertained all with his histrionics, and Anna Tooze scintillated as the high-spirited Dolly Levi. Friday night the show debuted to a crowd of around 40 people, while the two Saturday showings had nearly every seat filled with crowds of around 70. The final count is not yet in of how much money the fundraiser produced, but the feedback from attendees has been outstanding.
